Abstract
By comparing the numerical results of various authors, the authors have investigated magnetic field strengths up to which a standard perturbation calculation can produce reliable results. Energy levels and transition probabilities for 14 low-lying states of the H atom are determined for B=103 T using perturbation theory and are discussed in relation to previously published numerical values. Discrepancies up to five orders of magnitude in earlier results for transition probabilities are cleared up by their approach. Keywords
