Abstract
In the United States the growth rate in the number of women entrepreneurs as sole proprietors of businesses has, since 1972, been three times as high as that for male business owners. In Canada, the number of women who aresole owners has increased by 123% since 1964. The most recent comparative research studies show little difference between American and Canadian women entrepreneurs. The present Québec study distinguishes three different profiles of women entrepreneurs and indicates the most outstanding needs of each of these three types.
