Abstract
The development of a low cost finegrain sampling calorimeter consisting of flash chambers sandwiched between aluminum and lead plates is described. The flash chambers are made from black polypropylene sheets having a cell size of 4 mm × 5 mm. The cells are filled with Ne-He gas. Track information is obtained by applying a triggered HV pulse across the polypropylene sheets which causes a glow discharge in the cells traversed by particles. The response of the calorimeter to electrons and hadrons from measurements made at Fermilab is discussed. Keywords
