Abstract
The eikonal approximation is applied to the electron impact excitation of the 2 1 S and 2 1 P states of helium for incident energies of 50 eV–500 eV. The differential cross sections for both excitations deviate significantly from the first Born approximation calculation. The results are compared with experimental cross sections. Keywords
