Abstract
Inter-fibre friction measurements have been made on viscose rayon fibres using a stick-slip technique. The effect of tension in the fibres is examined and the effects of denier and angle of contact between the fibres are small. The curve F = kR n has been fitted to the experimental values of frictional force and normal force. The effects of titanium dioxide as delustrant, coloured pigments incorporated before extrusion, two dyes in heavy shades, and two finishes are investigated. Further work is necessary on the values of kinetic friction forces during the “slip” period. Keywords
