Abstract
Hypotheses on the mechanism of position effect are critically reviewed. An interpretation is offered which regards position effect as a result of chromosome pairing that causes a modification of stress near the affected loci. Several known cases of position effects are discussed in the light of this interpretation and methods of testing it are suggested. This publication has 19 references indexed in Scilit:
