Abstract
The livers of 20 guinea pigs, all of which had amebic dysentery following intracecal injection of trophozoites of E. histolytica, were cut into small pieces, inoculated into 20 tubes (for each liver) of whole egg medium that had been seeded with organism t, and the cultures incubated at 37[degree]C. Cultures from 15 of the livers were positive, in most cases in examinations at 72 to 96 hours, but in other cases only on transfer after an additional 72 hours. There was evidence of concomitant infection of the liver with amebas and bacteria. Direct microscopic examination of liver tissue prior to cultivation failed to reveal amebas, and examination of sections failed to indicate liver damage. Keywords
