Abstract
A minimal model based on the standard SU(2)×U(1) gauge theory, with spontaneous violation and natural flavor conservation, is presented in some detail. In particular it is shown that one on the minima of the classical Higgs potential leads to spontaneous breaking. The generalized Cabibbo-type matrix is real and there is no violation in the manner of Kobayashi-Maskawa. The nonconservation is entirely due to Higgs-boson exchange, and can be characterized by a single phase for an arbitrary number of quark generations.
