Abstract
Introduction Congenital teratoma of the orbit is a rare condition which manifests itself dramatically by marked unilateral proptosis in a newborn infant. This case report and the discussion which follows concern such an infant, examined and operated upon at the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco. Report of Case History. —On March 10, 1961, a 3-day-old female infant was admitted to the University of California Hospital. This baby, the fourth sibling of an otherwise normal family, had at birth a large rubbery mass protruding from the left orbit (Fig. 1). This mass measured 8X6X4 cm. and had displaced the left eye upward. The distended palpebral fissure measured 4 cm. from the inner to the outer canthus.
