Abstract
Ethanol actions have mainly been described in terms of physicochemical membrane actions. More recently, investigators using intracellular electrophysiological recording techniques have been able to describe ethanol effects on ionic channel function. This chapter reviews the literature on ethanol-potassium channel interactions and discusses the hypothesis that the inhibitory effects of ethanol on central neurons are mediated by increased potassium conductance. Keywords
