Some Aspects of the Proposed Captive Breeding of Dwarf Chimpanzees

Abstract
A critique is given of the plan of the Yerkes Center, Georgia, USA to establish a breeding colony of the dwarf chimpanzee in Zaire, ensuring the preservation of the species. Previous experience indicates that great losses should be expected in captivity from an increase in epidemics and quarantine mortality. Some conservationists feel that the animal is not threatened in its present natural environment.
