Abstract
In a group of Italians aged 11-20, 48.6% had protective antibodies against diphtheria and 29.8% against tetanus. Subjects who were vaccinated at least 10 yr previously with 1 or more doses of vaccine contained the largest number of immune subjects; in subjects aged 21-30 the percentage of seropositive subjects is analogous to that of the former group. Male subjects had a higher percentage of immunity than the female subjects because many of them had done military service. Subjects aged more than 31 yr present a decline in numbers and in percentage of those who have antibodies against diphtheria and tetanus.
