Chromotrope Silver Methenamine Stain of Glomerular Lesions

Abstract
A staining method for glomeruli incorporates silver methenamine and chromotrope 2R stains. The effects of the pH of the chromotrope 2R staining solution and of the tissue were evaluated. Chromotrope 2R stains deposits best at a pH of about 1.0. Factors affecting the staining intensity and selectivity are discussed. The method is useful for detecting proteinaceous deposits in the glomeruli and possibly in other locations.
