PREPARATION AND METABOLISM OF IODINATED PEPTIDES1

Abstract
A method of preparation and of I131 - labeling of L-leucyl-L-mono- or diiodotyrosine, and glycyl-L-mono- or diiodotyrosine is described. Studies with sheep thyroid and liver have been performed. A peptidase which hydrolyzes the iodinated dipeptides is present in liver and thyroid microsomes and in the cell sap of these preparations. A tissue deiodinase was also demonstrated, but it could not be shown that this was active prior to hydrolysis of the dipeptide.
