Effect of Epinephrine on Male and Female Albino Rats

Abstract
A 1:10,000 soln. of epinephrine when injd. intraven. into albino rats in doses of 0.14 cc/100 g. body wt. caused death in 27.1% of the female rats as compared to 78.5% of the male rats. Castration was without significant effect on the resistance of the male but resulted in the female becoming as susceptible as the male rats 4 wks. after castration. The importance of taking the sex of the animal into account when rats are used for studies of the toxicity of drugs seems clearly indicated.
