Abstract
This discussion examines five common topics that affect nails adversely, onychomycosis, brittle nails, developmental nail disorders, chronic paronychia and onycholysis. What is known about these processes, what areas of research, old and new, might lead to improved understanding of the underlying basis of the problems and what prospects the future might hold are considered. Keywords
