Lattice images and molecular images of organic materials

Abstract
High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HREM) has been widely applied to the fields of materials science and biological science since the first lattice images of a crystal were observed in 1956. The application of this method to organic materials, however, is severely restricted owing to radiation damage of the specimen by the electron beam. This review article describes the many pioneering works challenging this problem.
