Abstract
Substances that stimulate the growth of mosquito larvae (bacteria and their fermentation products) are present in infusions of fresh grass and hay. The time to 50% pupation of larvae of Aedes aegypti (L.) was 3.59 days in hay infusion compared to 5.07 days when the conventional rearing medium of laboratory animal chow in distilled water was used. Diluting the hay infusion with distilled water gave a corresponding decrease in growth rate. Rapid development was noted in 4 other species of mosquitoes when a homogenate of fresh grass was used as the rearing medium. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
