Abstract
A complex Lorenz system for convection due to interchange instability in collisional plasmas is derived from the classical two-fluid equations, including, among others, the effects of magnetic field curvature, finite ion gyroradius, and compressibility. The correspondences and differences between the presently derived system and the Lorenz system are discussed. For a wide regime of physical parameters the system is found to evolve towards a nonlinear equilibrium, but chaotic behavior is observed for the regime in which the real Lorenz system is chaotic. Keywords
