Multi-Chain Mean-Field Theory of Quasi One-Dimensional Quantum Spin Systems
Abstract
A mean-field theory for coupled quantum spin chains is presented. The dynamic environment of a chain C0 in a system with long-range antiferromagnetic order is modeled by nearest-neighbor chains Cd (d=-1,1), which are coupled to a staggered field. The fluctuations neglected in the environment of Cd are taken into account as a modification of their intrachain interactions. Self-consistency conditions are imposed on the induced staggered magnetizations in C0 and Cd. The theory is applied to a two-dimensional S=1/2 system, for which the effective 3-chain Hamiltonian is solved numerically for a wide range of interchain couplings. Keywords
