Abstract
In an outbreak of infection due to S. newport. 1019. persons were exposed to contaminated chopped liver in 5 parties served on 2 successive days by the same caterer. Of 750 persons investigated, 425 became ill. Of 478 persons examined, cultures were positive in 55%. The rate of positive cultures was 70% among clinical cases and 26% among persons who were not ill. 72% of the,patients became ill in 48 hrs., whereas 97% had their onset 4 days or less after exposure. The source of infection was a food handler who was an unrecongnized convalescent carrier of S. newport.Keywords
