Abstract
By means of hyaluronidase (1 mg in 100 ml of distilled water), the spiral structure of human somatic chromsomes was studied in cultured leukocytes. The number of chromonemata forming a chromatid is two. The coiled chromonemata seem to exist embedded in the matrix. The chromonemata at the centromere and secondary constriction are, in general, slender and uncoiled. Satellited regions and secondary constrictions always appear to be single stranded.
