Abstract
Total adenohypophysial DNA and RNA were determined in the rat 32 days after bilateral adrenalectomy, castration, and following the chronic administration of PTU. Castration and PTU administration both increased DNA and RNA content, whereas bilateral adrenalectomy did not. The changes in nucleic acid content are consistent with previously reported cytological evidence of increased protein synthetic activity in the "gonadotrophs" following castration and in the "thyrotrophs" following the administration of PTU.
