The risk of cervical cancer in teen-aged girls

Abstract
In this study significant cellular abnormalities of cervical smears in teen-aged girls were extremely rare. Among 5,061 girls, 19 years old or younger, there were no cell studies that indicated the presence of carcinoma in-situ or invasive cancer of the cervix. Three patients did have cervical dysplasia. It is suggested that the relative risk of cervical cancer in teen-aged girls is very low, and one should give the lowest priority to cytological screening of this age group.
