Abstract
In agreement with preceding authors, the presence of several pigmented substances in culture filtrates of Pseudomonas fluorescens is noted. We have found these substances to be genetically linked chemical units possessing a common chemical skeleton. In addition we find Mg to be of importance for fluorescence to appear as well as for the spectrum of the final state of the pigment. Finally we point out the extreme lability of these substances, particularly of fraction V1, as well as the irreversibility in vitro of certain transformations, at least as far as our own observations go.
