Abstract
A reappraisal of histological embedding media has shown the advantages of methyl metharcrylate softened with suitable plasticisers to a point where it can be cut with a steel knife using a conventional microtome. A detailed method is included, designed to produce stock solutions which can be used routinely in the Histology Laboratory to produce thin sections free from processing artifact. Precautions for avoiding polymerization damage and chatter during section cutting are described.
