AN ATTEMPT TO DEMONSTRATE A VIRAL ETIOLOGY FOR CHRONIC BRONCHITIS

Abstract

In an attempt to demonstrate a viral etiology for chronic bronchitis, specimens of sputum from 27 patients with the disease were studied in a variety of tissue cultures. Twenty specimens were inoculated on monkey cells, 14 on chick kidney and HeLa cells, and 5 on human amnion cells. In no instance was a viral agent isolated.
