Abstract
Sampling time for red blood cell (RBC) cholinesterase determinations by the Michel procedure can be decreased from 60 to 17 minutes by increasing the sample volume fivefold. The longer than expected reaction time in the modified procedure is due to the increased buffering effect of the RBC. The average RBC value of tests performed in duplicate on 59 subjects was 0.81 for the 60-minute method and 0.82 for the 17-minute method. Excellent correlation between the two methods also results when RBC inhibited with sarin are compared. Keywords
