Abstract
This new character, inherited as a single autosomal dominant, consists of a peculiar ridgelike formation in the skin of the breast, running longitudinally in the median line just over the breast bone. Breast ridge is characteristic of pea-combed breeds and when crossed with single-combed smooth-breasted vars. all individuals with breast ridges in the testcross and F2 generations, possessed pea combs and all smooth breasted individuals had single combs. 3 pea-combed individuals which appear to be smooth-breasted may be exceptions to this rule but, since breast ridge is variable in expression, especially in young birds, these 3 cases may not be true crossovers. The gene determining breast ridge is either identical with the pea-comb gene or very closely linked with it.
