Vibration spectra and structure of some pentafluorotellurate(IV) complexes

Abstract
Pentafluorotellurate complexes, MTeF5, where M = K, Rb, Cs, NH4, and C5H5NH, have been prepared, and their infrared and Raman spectra have been recorded. Molecular weight and conductivity measurements indicate that the pyridinium complex is a 1 : 1 electrolyte in solution, and the vibration spectra show that the discrete TeF5 ion persists in the solid phase. Detailed assignments of the infrared and Raman spectra of the crystalline complexes suggest a square-pyramidal (C4r) structure for the pentafluorotellurate(IV) ion.
