IODINE AND SULFUR LOCALIZATION IN LYSOSOMES OF THYROID EPITHELIAL-CELLS STUDIED BY MEANS OF EPMA

Abstract
Thyroid lysosomes were studied by means of EPMA [electron probe microanalysis] combined with an EM. In 4 mo. old mice, lysosomes are few in number and contain very low I concentrations and S load is not significant. In 10 mo. old mice, iodine alone or associated with S is observed in homogeneous lysosomes varying in size and density. Those 2 types of localizations reflect 2 eventual steps in hormonal metabolism pathway of iodine.
