Abstract
On the basis of previous research the validity of self‐reports of communication competence is questioned. Results of two studies indicate that self‐perceptions of communication competence are strongly related to communication apprehension and have moderate relationships with self‐esteem, introversion, and sociability. Implications for future research are suggested and results are also interpreted with regard to pedagogical implications. Keywords
