Prevention of the Ulcers of the Alkali-Burned Cornea

Abstract
The corneal ulcers and perforations which inevitably occur with severe alkali burns have been prevented in six of eight eyes by the use of collagenase inhibitors. This indicates that collagenase is the cause of the ulcers and suggests an effective treatment for alkali burns and other ulcered states of the cornea where collagenase has been isolated.
