Abstract
From experimental E2 matrix elements, the asymmetry shape parameter (corresponding to Bohr’s model parameter γ) is derived for the ground states of some fifty even-even nuclei with 94≤A≤192 (42≤Z≤76) by the sum-rule method. For the nuclei studied, an overall correlation between asymmetry and quadrupole deformation emerges.
