Inflammatory Lesions of Intervertebral Discs in Children

Abstract
Twenty cases of inflammatory lesions of the intervertebral disc in children have been reviewed. This is a benign condition of unknown but presumed infectious etiology. Serial roentgenograms have revealed a consistent pattern of vertebral involvement with later partial restoration of the disc height. Roentgenograms including laminagrams made at follow-up have demonstrated persistent cavitation and varying degrees of vertebral overgrowth. The management of this condition, including the controversial roles of biopsy, antibiotic therapy, and spinal immobilization, has been discussed.
