Fatal Ventricular Fibrillation after Carotid-Sinus Stimulation

Abstract
SINCE the statement, "In fact, permanent cessation of the heartbeat or serious ventricular arrhythmias are almost unheard of was made by Lown and Levine1 in 1961, 2 deaths that followed carotid-sinus stimulation have been reported.2 The present communication adds a third case of fatality from ventricular fibrillation and serves as a warning against unnecessary use of this otherwise useful procedure.Case ReportA 49-year-old alcoholic cobbler was admitted to the hospital because of palpitation, nausea, vomiting and hiccups of 3 weeks' duration.
