Heats of solution of alkylhexaoxyethylene glycol monoethers

Abstract
The heats of solution of a series of n-alkylhexaoxyethylene glycol monoethers have been measured calorimetrically at 25°C and compared with those of the n-alkanols. There is a marked difference in the magnitude of the heats due to the different head groups but the effects of chain length on the heat of solution are similar for both series of compounds. The difference in the behaviour of methylene groups proximate to the polar groups compared to those further removed has been ascribed to their different interactions with the solvent.
