Abstract
The refractive index has been measured by the method of minimum deviation on single crystals of Y3Fe5O12 and Gd1.5Y1.5Fe5O12. The index was found to be 2.168 ± 0.003 at 3.0 μm with a variation of the order of 5% between 1 and 6 μm. It is concluded that the Faraday rotation should vary in sympathy with the index in this region. Keywords
