Abstract
Summary A case of retrorectal neurilemoma and a review of world medical literature from 1935 to 1966, for specific nerve-sheath tumors of the rectum and perirectal areas, have been presented. Sixteen cases have been studied. Often, nonspecific pain, a palpable mass and rectal dysfunction are the presenting symptoms. The diagnosis is made by microscopic examination. The neoplasm is encapsulated and has specific morphologic features which differentiate it from the neurofibroma and other tumors. Keywords
