Duplications of the Alimentary Tract in the Adult

Abstract
Duplications of the alimentary tract are an interesting and uncommon group of anomalies which present, for the most part, during the early years of life. Dohn and Poulsen24 collected 315 "enterocystomas" from the world literature up to 1950, and approximately 30% occurred in patients over 16 years of age. In 1953, Nolan and Lee60 found only 16 adult cases in the American literature and added their experience with 3 others. We have encountered 3 adult cases in the past several years. The present study includes an analysis of adult duplications reported in the world literature during the 10-year period between June, 1949, and June, 1959. Prior to this time the nomenclature used to describe these lesions was not sufficiently standardized to permit adequate tabulation.
