Abstract
Although lasers have traditionally been used in medicine as therapeutic devices, there has been considerable interest in using them as diagnostic tools. A number of groups have been studying the medical applications of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF). We describe three projects examining the potential use of LIF in medicine. They involve the classification of colonic polyps, the LIF-guided resection of brain tumor, and the advantages of LIF for studying photosensitizer pharmacokinetics. All three projects are only summarized; complete descriptions will appear elsewhere. Keywords
