Abstract
A vineyard was established using three spacings and three cultivars of varying genetic vigor. During the first three harvests, yields per acre were substantially higher at spacings closer than those generally used by growers in Ontario. There was only a slight reduction in fruit soluble solids at the closer spacing. Evidence from the first three harvests indicates that on clay soil in Ontario, closer than conventional spacing of vines may be feasible and economically desirable.
