Abstract
An apparatus for the investigation of the transmission of sound along filaments at frequencies between 1,000 and 6,000 cycles per second is described, both for unstrained specimens and whilst they are being elongated at a constant rate of increase of strain. Measurements of the dynamic elasticity and damping factors of filaments of polythene, neoprene and nylon have been obtained, and the correlation of these results with the molecular re-arrangements which take place during stretching is discussed. Keywords
