Abstract
The locally averaged method which treats an inhomogeneous interacting electron gas as an average over many systems with locally uniform densities is applied to calculate the momentum density and Compton profile of atomic argon and krypton. The results show good agreement with experiment and marked improvement over simple Thomas-Fermi calculations. Keywords
