Abstract
Peripheral blood granulocyte lobe counts, serum and red blood cell folate, serum vitamin B12 levels, and formiminoglutamic acid (FIGLU) excretion studies were performed on patients with uncomplicated chronic hemolytic anemia, chronic hemolytic anemia associated with an aplastic crisis, and iron deficiency anemia with and without thrombocytopenia. Although diminished serum levels were found in half of the patients with an aplastic crisis, there was a lack of correlation between biochemical alterations and clincal course. Evidence of tissue folate deficiency was an infrequent finding in chronic hemolytic anemia and in iron deficiency anemia with or without thrombocytopenia. Keywords
