Abstract
To the Editor: A negative association between allergic disorders and cancer has been emphasized by many reports, and the relation of histamine to tumor growth has been a matter of controversy.1 2 3 To investigate this matter, we compared serum histamine levels in patients who had malignant disease with those in subjects who had no cancer. An improved method for measuring histamine was developed, employing high-performance liquid chromatography, which can detect histamine at concentrations as low as 0.2 ng per milliliter. The coefficient of variation was 9.28 per cent when 33 determinations were performed in a sample containing 3 ng of . . .Keywords
