A Preschool Program for Gifted-Handicapped Children

Abstract
The Chapel Hill Gifted-Handicapped Preschool Program has developed a model of services which includes, among other areas of concentration, identification procedures, curriculum development, and community and family involvement. Such programs highlight the fact that equal educational opportunity in preschool programs does not imply “the same educational opportunity” for every child. Accordingly, the individual needs of a gifted-handicapped youngster should determine the nature of the education provided. The pre-school project presented in this paper represents an attempt to meet the unique educational needs of a heretofore neglected exceptional population.
