Abstract
Summary Sixteen cases of bilateral total one-stage hip replacements in patients with rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis are reviewed. Special reference is given to peroperative problems, complications, and indications in a hospital with no intensive care unit. The indications are discussed and the results compared with larger series published earlier in literature. One-stage procedure proves to be a proper alternative in cases with severe bilateral disease. The rate of complications is comparable to that of unilateral procedures. A marked decrease in time consumption can be achieved. Keywords
