Abstract
Expressions for the electric polarization and birefringence are obtained for extremely low time-varying electric field E(t), i.e., (i) continuous reversing square pulses, (ii) E(T) = E0e−kt, and (iii) E(t) = E0(1−e−kt), where t is time, E0 is the strength of the field, and k is a decay constant. Also, the time-dependent behavior of the electric birefringenece is extensively discussed. Keywords
