Abstract
The effect of a strong magnetic field on neutron stars or white dwarfs is calculated for Thomson scattering in a fully ionized collisionless plasma. The photon mean free path can be greatly extended for propagation nearly parallel or, for the extraordinary mode, nearly perpendicular to the field. Keywords
